I have seen people collecting these. They said they used to eat them in Europe. I tasted them. They are quite hot and peppery.

Yes they are a Chanterelle like fungi; note their decurrent gills which are the same colour as the cap and the fact that they are showing signs of being hygrophanous, all typical of that species.
As for eating them, I only recommend eating fungi that you purchase from either the supermarket or green grocers.
