This is a very interesting sighting. Although the moth is widespread in both coastal and inland areas of southern Australia, I believe this is the first record from the NSW far south coast. It sometimes emerges en masse (ie thousands) after autumn rain in inland areas, but apparently that does not happen here. Note the prominent light antennae, which are structured into three combs. The species has recently had its genus name changed from Trictena.
