Hi Charles and plants. Are you sure this is a Rock Ringlet? There are no eyespots on the forewings, a diagnostic feature for this species. It looks more like Orange Ringlet (Hypocysta adiante) to me.

Have not had a chance to over a few of them, will do soon, just been busy uploading a lot of files.

Lovely photo, but I agree with Suzi, looks more like an Orange Ringlet to me :).

H. euphemia commonly has eyespots under the forewing. H. irius has the strongly marked lines under the forewing.

I am not a moderator for lepidoptera, but this now seems more like H.adiante. H.irius would be a long way south of its range; not impossible.

@plants I thought the same too, but ALA has a sighting recorded near Sydney & I think @donhe is correct regarding the wing markings (Iโ€™m not an expert though)๐Ÿ˜Š

Respectfully disagree with this verification Di - not H. irius. Suggest this one is actually H. metirius, as id by the good folks on iNat some years ago, see: https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/64773093 . Other than the southerly location of the sighting there is a good deal of difference in the hw undersides of these two species.
