I notice the live photos A. annulata on both iNaturalist and LBH do not show white tips to the antennae whereas A. nigriceps do show white tips. Only the hand drawings of A. annulata on LBH show the white tips to the antennae. Also the set specimens of A. annulata on BOLD Systems 4 do not show white tips to the antennae. Could this be an original identification error and the white tips to the antennae might be diagnostic for A. nigriceps after all?

Its hard to believe that Boisduval got it so wrong. I wonder where the Fabricius' types are held. Could we ask someone there to take a look and tell us the answer?

In his description of A. annulata : Fabricius says simply "antennae ... nigrae" . No mention of white tips.
Of A. fenestrata, he says "antennae ... nigrae ... ante apicum albae", so if A. annulata had white tips : I think he is likely to have said this too, so Boisduval made a mistake.
In Butler's description of A. nigriceps, he says it is very similar to A. annulata but has a larger hyaline spot on the hindwing. No mention of white antenna tips.
