The images you've put up show the typical 'hoof-shaped form of some species of Phellinus with the brownish pores. I suspect it is either P badius (brown spores) or more likely P. robustus (colourless spores). Can only distinguish more definitively by looking at the microscopic characteristics.
Both species cause heart rot in living trees such as eucalypts, acacias and allocasuarinas. P. badius has been observed on a decayed wooden eucalypt electricity transmission pole in Qld.!!

Do you have any advice about starting to document fungi species in my area? Either I can blindly snap anything/everything or are there resources I can refer to to help me focus on certain species?
