I agree this is an interesting little species. Is it possible that it may be an immature version of Clavulina coralloides before the tips have fully expanded? Or possibly something like Clavulina subrugosa, again immature??! Sorry I can't be more helpful... May just have to leave it as as coral fungus.
OK - good suggestions, I regret not having a ruler on hand for scale - from memory the stems on this specimen stood out because they were considerably thicker than those of the nearby Clavulina coralloides. But the location was close by, so you may be right, just immature... If I get a chance I'll try for a follow up photo.
