Heavy thick black ash blankets the normally pristine clear waters of the Merimbula lake. This 'sludge' was especially thick along the edges of the lake, pooling in places that looked like even the tide wasn't moving it. There was more debris and fine ash in the water of the channel, but the sides of the lake were particularly thick and sludgy
