Could this be Xanthorrhoea? Not sure if it is and what category it would go under.

Yup this is a Xanthorrhoea sp or grass tree, they are in either shrubs or trees (depending on whether they have a "trunk"). Hard to go beyond, that without good macro shots of the flower stalks, there are 8 species here on the North Coast. :)
