This large blue black insect has been buzzing around for several days, finally captured an image while it was on the ground

excellent shot Claire. I got one at Yackandandah on the weekend but although I could see the blue when it flew I couldn't capture it on film.

I agree. They are certainly not small. But beautiful when you can get that blue to show.
