I was actually taking photos of the skipper butterfly and didn't realise the mantis was there until I downloaded the photos and looked at them. It didn't catch this particular butterfly. I came back to the flower a minute later and spotted it eating another butterfly

Some insect predators and spiders habitually sit on flowers waiting to grab unsuspecting visitors. Tha mantid is obviously eyeing off a tasty morsel
