groundcover, very spreading, hard to count how many plants.

Plants survive on mud exposed by falling water levels for a while - die off quickly (desiccate) if its hot, or frosted.

TY JaneR. I've only ever seen it on the edge exposed before. DIdn't realise the plant on the water was the same thing!

yes, different forms when in a wetland, from when stranded. A few wetland plants are like that ( tricky) and Ludwigia is a good example.
