The animal size is listed a 5+ cms, which is usually the length of the body for a moth with closed wings. So the wingspan is probably 10 cms, which is a bit big for E. australasiae.

That is my fault. I nominated that size. I have not been clear what dimension 'size' represents. In a beetle, earwig, Blattid etc body length I guessed, but in moths texts, wingspan is the usual dimension given. I was not sure which dimension I should give and it is a compulsory input field for a record. Plus I am poor at remembering/visualising the mm or cm dimensions of these animals. For some I went and counted flyscreen squares to the cm to calculate it and was beginning to think I needed to count the threads per cm for my mothing sheet. I do guess size of moths on the sheet by looking at how magnified the warp and weft of my sheet is in the shots or how big or small compared to known vegetation they are on. Sorry to have caused confusion.

Yes, NatureMapr is ambiguous. A comment would be good to resolve it specifying which it was . I would expect wingspan for a dragonfly or many geometrids but if the photo is of an insect with folded wings I would expect most observers to offer the length. Francis Walker of course always offered both.🙂
