I took these images just after the ones showing a moth in sighting 4581068. This tiny case is similar in size and looks to the moth case in that previous sighting. I'm not sure what is going on - the emerging insect doesn't appear to have wings but in image 2, I think I can see an antenna. Could a moth be in the process of breaking out of the pupal shell? At the time I wasn't sure if the insect was alive or dead. The next morning (19 July) I took image 3.

@Curiosity : or the larva itself ? Did this specimen yield a male when you kept it?

Hi @donhe. I wish I could answer your question, but I didn't take the specimen inside to observe its development. I've never tried to do that with a butterfly or moth at the pupal stage, so I didn't even think of doing so. Next time!

The segmented body looks more like a larva, but most Psychidae larvae have a black and white pattern on the head and thorax, see
