Healthy coiled amythestine python .
Certainly this species identification – notice this individual's markers and iridescent blue hues .
Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, under the wooden raised floor, area,
for walking and seating area of the entrance foyer and cafe outdoor eating area .
Smallish, not the largest size for this species, in my experience and learning.
Was well observed sheltering here by many people this morning,
as the Yalanji (first people) cultural tour guides and staff discretely let visitors know about it there and where to look (without scaring visitors).
As a local living person familiar with friends there, boldly I got my head right under the platform upside down and made this reasonable photograph, considering the conditions, with the camera the right way up (compared to me upside down looking through it).
Has periodically happened that they shelter under there sometimes, perhaps after a night hunting native rats (eg. white tailed rainforest rats) and other prey around and under the Centre.
Usual habitat occurs in the rainforest canopy, mid. storeys and ground, just nearby from about 10m away.
