These black and tan ?bugs? were on the open lid of a wheely bin, which rested against a Common silkpod (Parsoonia straminea) vine. The vine is a great magnet for all sorts of invertebrates, and I imagine they ‘hatched out’ on/under it. However their sizes cover quite a range (all photos, especially photos 2 & 5). The wing covers, which are black, as is the thorax and head, are particularly short (top of photo 1, just right of centre). 2 of the largest insects (Photo 5) appear to have dark bands under their abdomens, (not evident in the small one beside them - photo 2) and have a different profile than the flatter & smaller individuals (photos 1, 3 & 4). A lateral furrow runs from the stubby wing covers towards the rear (photos 1 & 4).
