User's notes

I first noticed the small flies on fungi on 09/05/2025. The fungi (uploaded separately) are growing at & on the base of the eucalypt. Early on, flies appeared singly on separate caps on separate clumps of fungi. Then on the 12th, fighting began between a pair of flies. They had several goes at each other before I was able to photograph the fight shown here. The images are in sequence.

Love seeing the behaviour! Territoriality at such a small scale!

Thanks, Span102. I was excited to be able to record the behaviour! If you would like to see more images of these flies fighting, have a look at sightings 4434157 & 3391252 on CNM. When looking for an ID, these sightings alerted me to the flies' tendency to fight for possession of fungal caps!
