User's notes
A large dark brown fly with white tipped wings, which, moving in towards the body, become dark brown, extending along the front edge. There is a patch of yellow-fawn long the mid to inner-wing, and what looks like a translucent patch along the rear-inner quarter, (photo 1). The upper abdomen appears to be a black-brown with a deep cream colour marking the outer margins, and medium-small bands of the same colour running from side to side and joining at the margins.
The eyes were brown and large (photo 2) and the upper thorax surface appeared to be a little hairy (photos 1 - 4). Its behaviour was suggestive of large hover fly. This may be the same Sp. as that at sighting 4672622, which was also visiting the same flowers, (Common mint), in the same pot, as this one was. These 2 sightings were about a fortnight apart.
