Hi Wendy, apart from being fairly close and with good light, ideally there should be three views on an ant: one looking at its face, one looking straight down at its back and one looking at the side of the ant. If you look up this link as an example (https://antwiki.org/wiki/Iridomyrmex_rufoniger) you will see the three images which are always taken for illustrating a type specimen. Of course, this is done on a pinned specimen with specialised equipment, and it's not really possible to do this in the field, but it will give you some idea of the three views which are really useful. Good luck! Jon
