Broad, ribbed, greenish pink leaf, folded back away from a flower stem emerging from underground. Leaf sheath encloses the base of the flower stem. Flower stem has a developing bud at the tip and smaller leaf attached with a sheath to the opposite side from the first one.
One specimen in a shady spot had a greener broad, ribbed first leaf .
