How do I find out which species are included in C. banksiaria group ? For this sighting, I think we cannot rule out C. nodosus , C. belophora, or C. auctaria.
as I said above Moths of Victoria Part 5 - two different markings forms of the larvae are illustrated on the CD pages. This larva conforms with one of these - Larva sp. (b) C. nodosus & C. auctaria were not recorded in Museum Vic, ANIC and several private collections at the time of publication. C. belophora had only been recorded on the Mornington Penninsula and in Gippsland. This location is best at the very western edge of the MoVic Pt 5 suggested C. belophora distribution.
I suspect that the stripy patterns of Chlenias caterpillars change through the instars. Is there set of photos of all the instars of any Chlenias species ? I think the larvae sp. (a) and (b) of MOV are just different instars.
