The tagged hooded plover appears to have "Y8" on the tag (easier to see in another photo). I don't know whether a code was on the other side of the tag.

Hello Ross, not sure who the NP coordinator for the Shorebirds is these days used to be Amy Harris but they would be interested to know that Y8 is in Eden, I am assuming that it is Nullica Beach. According to the information that I have Y8 was banded at Wallaga Lake. i photographed X0 there recently, this bird was banded at this beach.

This was on Long Beach North near Quondolo Beach and Haycock Point. Seems Y8 has done a little travelling. Posting a digital zoom of Y8.
Steve, I found Amy Harris is still the coordinator and emailed her a copy of the two photos on this sighting.

Ok, before these birds were banded you would just assume you were looking at the same pair

Y8 had been paired with T1 for the last two seasons, mainly at Pinnacle Beach. They occasionally ventured onto the southern end of Haycock but were always evicted during breeding season by the ever vigilant Haycock residents P4 and unbanded partner.
Sadly, we lost P4 in March but she was promptly replaced by Y8, whose former partner T1 was left alone on Pinnacle Beach last few times I saw him. Hopefully he will find a new partner for this season.

Interesting I stopped monitoring the hooded plovers about 5 years ago just as they were starting to band them from what I remember the pair at north long beach use to lose a lot of eggs to ravens

I only moved here two years ago and have been involved in the Shorebird Recovery program since. The former Haycock pair (P4 + partner) fledged 6 chicks in the 2015/16 season (two broods of 3). The second brood were all flagged.
Unfortunately, they had no fledging success in 2016/17.
