Saw a number of these taking off from Merimbula Creek and circling to gain height before heading towards the sea.

Hello Ross, just had another look at this image, bit hard to tell with the back lighting but it might actually be a pied cormorant, will see what the others say.

The sun was only just rising and I was in an upper area of Merimbula Creek so light was still low. It is a harder ID.

Just had a closer look at the image in photoshop and there is a yellow mark in front of the eye, confirming this as a pied cormorant, there are quite a few of them around at the moment.
