It appeatrs to have the right size and shape but the feather pattern/colour is not clear due to the shaded position.

This is most likely to be a Boobook. There is now some confusion with its generic name. The name was Ninox novaeseelandiae and this covered all subspecies. This name is becoming limited to the subspecies morepok (various spellings) including the NZ species and N boobook to the main species. Mentioned in detail in the CSIRO field guide.
