User's notes

This nasty little plant has proliferated in brushfire burnt coastal scrub land. It has fine but very sharp spikes on the stem, and on the top and bottom all the leaves I have attached a photo of a flower and a fruit which looks like a small melon the size of a P or grape. I would welcome any identification and suggestions as to how to deal with it. Thanks
