A moderately large Christmas beetle, gold on top, rich red legs and underside, with some black at the rear underside. The entire body is washed with a light green metallic sheen. The underside has lots of white hairs, and the rear end had a tuft of stiff-looking hairs emanating from it. Some 30-40 years ago these were commonplace, but almost rarely since. In very recent recent years (3-5) I’m starting to see more, though still low numbers, say 1-3 each Summer.
