Persicaria (genus)

Hi Jason - thanks for the identification. I’ve looked through possibilities and I think P. hydropiper. Can you help confirm the species? I’ve found hydropiper at the bottom near the creek but was surprised to see it at the top among the carex. I guess it’s still shaded and moist but only the one plant that I can see. A bit strange.

The subtle implication of that was that your current five photographs do not show focussed images of the stems enough for us to see the hairs on the stems which we require to positively identify this to species (based on shown here evidences) and furthermore to confirm a species identification (no guessing – that's false identification, not positive identification.).

please read this key at least in parts to familiarise yourself with what information we need to positively botanically key this out (based on shown here evidences) to species (no guessing – that's false identification, not positive identification – we're not in a rush to get to a conclusion, we're interested in clearly evidenced physical facts based positive ID only!).

To make focussed photographs of the stems' hairs you will need higher quality camera focus photographs than everyday mobile phone photographs;
here particularly you require macro–focus functionality or macro–lens to capture sharp–focussed photographs of the hairs on the stems .
The best value for money and handling–convenience cameras i know of which include high quality lenses including macro–sharp–focus functionality – even up as close as only 10mm from the plant part,
are the ca. $250–$500 point and shoot Canon IXUS old nowadays models .
See my photographs, i do not ever have any fancy cameras, only mobile phones and from 2014–2021 merely a Canon IXUS 150 as well, and from 2021– merely a Canon IXUS 190 as well .
