User's notes

This was one of the most amazing mornings I've ever had. At 7am, there were four glossy black-cockatoos feeding on young trees next to the driveway. Two were juveniles, judging from the strongly barred tails and dotted under wings. The four flew next door, where I heard the insistent peeping of a fledgling. When I arrived, I saw the family of three with the fledgling from yesterday, feeding above a dam, and I heard a number of glossies chewing next to the dam, before they flew above me. At the same time, there was a chorus of glossy calls, and a lot of movement - and more peeping. I was amazed to see a number of glossy black-cockatoos zooming (not all together), the generally gentle, languid flight of individual birds now looking more like zippy swallows. I managed to capture some video footage of some birds diving down, low to the ground, then swooping back up again. I did not witness the joy and play for the entire time - my neighbour reports they were like this for at least half an hour! I then saw two families of three grooming in a large eucalypt in the sun, before the youngsters couldn't contain themselves and were off flying again. The last photo is of the two families flying to join the other family I'd been photographing. I estimate that there were 13 glossy black-cockatoos enjoying the coastal morning.
