Family of three came in to feed mid afternoon. The female fledgling peeped insistently. I was interested to note that she also picked her own allocasuarina nut, then slowly turned the cone to access the inner seeds. As the day advanced, the juvenile seemed to become bored, and suddenly took off into the neighbouring paddock, flying from eucalypt to eucalypt, finding her way between branches. She called loudly, in a deep adult call, which I normally associate with one glossy asking another to follow. Her parents did not answer, and just continued to feed, with the occasional soft contact call. I estimate she flew at least 300m away from her parents. After 15 mins or so, her parents flew to a nearby eucalypt, and called. Their daughter called back, but did not return. The adults then flew north before curving west, followed a few minutes later by their daughter, where they ended up perching at a dam for their evening drink. The juvenile begged, and was fed by mum first, before she moved onto dad, who also fed her.
