At https://canberra.naturemapr.org/species/3150 there are some comments about the differences between Clavulina vinaceocervina and Clavulina cinerea. A fawn or pinkish form of vinaceocervina is easy to distinguish from a decidedly grey form of cinerea but, as pointed out in that link, there is colour variation and it becomes harder to identify a sighting from a photograph alone when shades of say purplish or greyish brown appear. Furthermore, as also noted in that link, Australian Clavulinas are in need of a detailed study. Hence the 'species' Clavulina cinerea/vinaceocervina has been created to hold sightings that are neither clearly pink/fawn nor clearly grey.
