The Eastern Water Dragon (Intellagama lesueurii lesueurii) is large and powerful when fully grown, especially adult males that grow larger than females. This subspecies is distinguished by a bold dark stripe behind the eye, a pale, plain throat and mature males have a red chest and belly and broad dark bars across the back and tail. They have a very long tail (twice as long as the body in original tails) that is laterally compressed, enabling them to swim proficiently through the water, both above and below. Broken tails can be partially regrown, which is rare amongst dragons, although regenerated tails are without the original banded pattern and not as long.
Intellagama lesueurii lesueurii is listed in the following regions:
Canberra & Southern Tablelands | Southern Highlands | South Coast | Greater Sydney | Hunter Region | New England | New South Wales North Coast | Greater Brisbane | Darling Downs | Wide Bay
