Parakontikia atrata (The Black planarian)

A small planarian up to 20 mm crawling, intense shiny black dorsally, ventrally with a grey median stripe bordered on either side by paler greyish stripes of about the same width, esternal to which are darker grey longitudinal stripes that merges into the darker black ground colour. Eyes (that can be difficult to see against the black ground colour) contour the anterior tip and continue posteriorly in a single submarginal row. A native species found in Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales. Often adjacent to watercourses and dams, and sometimes in urban gardens.
