Trigonidium canberrae (A sword-tailed cricket)

All species in this sub-family (Trigonidiinae) are small, slender crickets and they have a prominent adhesive pad on the second tarsal segment. Some species are mute and flightless (eg Trigonidium canberrae). The are usually found climbing on vegetation.

T. canberrae lacks a prominent dorsal swelling between thorax and abdomen (a feature of Trigonodiomorpha spp. and Metiche spp.)

The following monograph provides an excellent reference for cricket species identification and distribution:

Otte, D. & Alexander, R. 1983. The Australian Crickets (Orthoptera; Gryllidae). Academy of the Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. Monograph 22.
