Cicindela (Myriochile) mastersi (Tiger beetle)

A fast-running diurnal predator that lives in open grassland. When disturbed they are quick to take flight, then land some distance away. The very distinctive larvae live in exposed vertical tunnels in the soil, from which they ambush passing creatures. In our region, adults emerge in late summer.
