Yes, the moths lacking the post medial fascia seem to be quite common. Both forms are illustrated in 'Moths in the ACT', G. Cocking et al (2022), p. 66.

Thanks, Ian & Don, I was having trouble agreeing with your assessment, as all images on Bold and in Common, 1997 (Oec.II) show a pre medial fascia; until I read the original description.

"The variation of this species in the occasional presence of an
anterior fascia which is usually wholly absent is quite singular, but
I have no doubt that the two forms really constitute a single
species ; the difference is not sexual."
