Bovista pulyuggeodes
The fruit body is a puffball that appears on the ground. Fruit bodies are more or less spherical and up to 3 centimetres in diameter. At the base there is a well-developed rooting strand that anchors the puffball firmly to the ground. In a fresh fruitbody there is an outer layer (or exoperidium) to the spore sac. That layer consists of whitish spines, with their bases separate from each other but often with groups of 4 or so joined at their apices. Over time the exoperidium is eroded away, but you may find remnants on the lower (and therefore more protected) sides of an older fruitbody.
