Enicocephalidae (family) (Gnat bug)

Peculiar bugs that are not closely related to any other family, although they resemble small Assassin bugs (Reduviidae). The wings may be complete, abbreviated or absent. Fully winged individuals may fly in swarms (hence the name 'gnat bug'), but otherwise they are generally found in leaf litter, rotting logs, grass tussocks or under rocks, where they are believed to predate other small arthropods, presumably using their raptorial forelegs to seize prey.
