Exidia sp.

The fruitbody has a jelly-like texture and may be top-shaped, cushion-like or brain-like in appearance. The fruitbody may be white, brown or black.

 The fruitbodies grow on wood.

 The genus is found worldwide.

 Look-alikes

Tremella is very similar macroscopically. Some striking species of each genus (e.g. the bright yellow/orange Tremella mesenterica or the dark black Exidia glandulosa) may be recognized by the naked eye, but for others the naked eye is not enough.

The taxonomy of many of the jelly fungi is still confused and some species, once placed in Exidia, have been moved to Ductifera.

Exidia sp. is listed in the following regions:

Canberra & Southern Tablelands
