Spreading, prostrate shrub with ascending branches to 0.5 m high. Leaves laterally compressed, 8–18 mm long, glabrous.
Flowers in clusters of 4–6; peduncles ≤ 1 mm long; bracts leaf-like or triangular and scarious, 3–16 mm long; bracteoles oblong, 4–8 mm long, yellow-green or yellow-brown, persisting until after anthesis. Hypanthium 7–12 mm long, 1.5–2 mm diam. with acute ribs. Sepals narrow-triangular, 1.5–2 mm long, usually toothed; as long as or slightly longer than petals. Style 12–20 mm long, red.
