Paederus cruenticollis (Whiplash Rove Beetle)

These small and brightly coloured Rove beetles are common on wet soil. They release a defensive secretion which, on contact with the skin, produces a lesion medically known as 'Paederus dermatitis', but colloquially as 'whiplash'.
